Dina Peterson, Teacher at Kinloch Elementary School, captured something powerful this year: when we celebrate students as individual artists, we nurture far more than creativity. At our annual art show, students across every grade level shared their work with pride, families gathered to celebrate, and the energy in the room spoke to the transformative power of Fine Arts education. This is the kind of moment that reminds us why investing in the whole child matters.

YOUR FORM MAKES A DIFFERENCE!

If your child receives an Education Benefits Form, please take a few minutes to complete it and return it to your school’s Main Office. Only one form is needed per household, and not every household will receive a form.

Completing this form is important! The information provided helps Crestwood School District secure valuable funding that supports programs and resources for our students. It may also help your family qualify for waived or reduced fees.

One form. A few minutes. A big impact for our students!

Help Us Share the Gift of Reading!

Throughout September, Hillcrest, Highview, and Kinloch Elementary Schools will be collecting new books to support the Children’s DMC Book Drive! The goal is to collect 200 new books for Children’s Hospital of Michigan to bring comfort, hope, and a great story to children during their hospital stay.

Families who would like to help can donate newly purchased books appropriate for a pediatric setting at any of our three elementary schools throughout September. Thank you to our Crestwood community for helping brighten the day of a child, one book at a time!

Meet Nissreen Slim, a paraprofessional at Kinloch Elementary School, who shows us what's possible when we commit to consistent, one-on-one support. Her dedication to reading intervention reminds us that real growth happens when students feel seen, supported, and encouraged to try. This is the heart of what we do at Crestwood.

When Stephanie Resetar, a teacher at Kinloch Elementary School, invited families into her classroom for Game Day this spring, something powerful happened. Students stepped into the role of teacher, demonstrating not just the games they'd learned, but the confidence, communication skills, and teamwork they'd developed along the way. This is what strengthening the home-school connection looks like in action—and a beautiful reminder that learning thrives when families and educators partner together.

Jennifer Deprez brought her 3rd and 4th grade Girls Who Code clubs together for a screen-free coding challenge that taught students something powerful: failure is just part of the process. Her insight captures what we value most at Crestwood — educators who create space for students to experiment, adjust, and grow into confident problem-solvers. This is the kind of teaching that shapes the next generation.

A square recognition graphic features a photograph of two elementary students sitting on a classroom floor engaged in a hands-on STEAM coding activity. The students are using colorful coding cards and a small programmable robot to solve a challenge together. The background shows other students working collaboratively around the room. In the upper left, large white text reads “KINLOCH,” with “Spotlight” written below in gold script over a translucent gray banner. In the upper right, white text identifies Jennifer Deprez, Teacher, Kinloch Elementary School. Across the lower portion of the photo, bold white text on a blue banner reads, “BUILDING CREATIVE PROBLEM-SOLVERS.” Beneath the headline, black text on a light blue background states: “STEAM education is all about creating a plan, testing it out, and going back to make adjustments. If we embrace the idea that it's ok to fail and try again, we can build a generation of confident, creative problem-solvers.” The design uses Kinloch Elementary School’s blue and gold colors to celebrate innovative, hands-on learning that encourages creativity, perseverance, collaboration, and critical thinking.
