When the Dearborn Heights Fire Department rolled up to Kinloch Elementary during National Fire Safety Week, teacher Mary Laney saw something special happen. Her young students didn't just learn about fire safety—they experienced it firsthand, meeting real firefighters and exploring equipment up close. Mary's commitment to creating real-world connections reminds us that the most powerful learning happens when we open our classroom doors and invite the community in. We are closely monitoring the weather forecast for tomorrow. If rain is expected, we may need to move our Kindergarten Moving Up Ceremony indoors to the gym. A final decision will be made tomorrow morning, and we will communicate any changes as soon as possible.

If the rain continues into the afternoon, the Kindergarten Picnic will also be moved indoors. In that case, food will be set up in the gym, and parents will be able to pick up their food there and enjoy the picnic with their child in the classroom.

If we need to move indoors, attendance will be limited to two guests per student to ensure we have space for all.

Thank you for your flexibility and understanding as we work to make this a special day for our kindergarten students while keeping everyone safe and comfortable. We are hopeful that the weather cooperates and that we can celebrate outdoors as planned!

A colorful promotional flyer from the Dearborn Heights Library advertises a summer children’s program.
