Do you know a Crestwood teacher who goes above and beyond for students? The 2027–2028 Michigan Teacher of the Year nomination window is now open!
The Michigan Department of Education is seeking nominations for outstanding educators who make a difference in the lives of their students and school communities. Parents, students, colleagues, and community members can nominate a deserving teacher. Nominees must be PreK–12 educators who work directly with students and have at least five years of teaching experience in Michigan.
Nominating a teacher is easy! You will need the teacher’s name and email address, school and district, grade level, your contact information, and a short paragraph explaining why the teacher deserves to be recognized.
Nominations are due by 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.

Across the Crestwood School District, students celebrated Constitution Day on Thursday, September 17th, learning about the U.S. Constitution while having some fun along the way!
At Kinloch Elementary, students showed their patriotic spirit by dressing in red, white, and blue. At Crestwood High School, advisory classes put their Constitution knowledge to the test in a schoolwide Kahoot competition, with separate competitions for 9th–10th graders and 11th–12th graders. Congratulations to Ms. Faber’s advisory class and Mr. Moitozo’s advisory class for coming out on top!
It was a great day of learning, friendly competition, and celebrating the principles and history of our Constitution across Crestwood!

Just wanted to send this out again today to stress the importance of not driving through the construction zone during arrival and dismissal. As you may have noticed, there were many trucks driving through on Kinloch street yesterday. I would also park further down Lawrence and Kinloch to avoid those trucks.

Elizabeth Juers and her 2nd grade class at Kinloch Elementary showed us something powerful this spring: when we create meaningful, motivating experiences and believe in what students can do, they consistently rise to meet us there. Her class didn't just win the iReady March Madness Championship—they proved that our young learners are ready to do hard things. This is the kind of teaching that defines our district.

Car Loop
We have been doing a much better job with the car loop, and we appreciate everyone’s cooperation while everyone learns this process. We do want to remind everyone that even one parked car can disrupt the entire car line and cause significant delays. This process only works when everyone follows the procedures. We understand that parking and walking a distance can be frustrating, but for the safety of our students and to keep traffic moving, please follow the designated procedures and avoid parking in the car loop.
Student Sales
We have certainly seen some of our students showing their entrepreneurial spirit! However, we want to remind families that students are not permitted to sell food, drinks, or any other products at school.
Thank you for your continued patience, cooperation, and support. We know that arrival and dismissal can be challenging, but when we all work together and follow the procedures, it makes a big difference for everyone.

A Message from the Kinloch PTA
For 22 years, Mrs. Melanie Garden dedicated herself to the students, staff, and families of Kinloch Elementary. Her kindness, compassion, and commitment touched countless lives and will remain a lasting part of the Kinloch community.
In her honor, the Kinloch PTA has established the Melanie Garden Memorial Fund to create a lasting tribute that will inspire future generations.
Donations of any amount are greatly appreciated and can be made through Zelle, cash, or check. Cash and checks may be dropped off at the Kinloch Elementary School office, with checks made payable to Kinloch PTA. For Zelle donations, please scan the QR code on the flyer through your banking app and include MEMORIAL in the payment memo.

Ask Zeinab Tekko, a teacher at Kinloch Elementary School who built a classroom culture where affirmations like 'nothing is ever too hard' became the foundation for both academic excellence and character development. Throughout September, Hillcrest, Highview, and Kinloch Elementary Schools will be collecting new books to support the Children’s DMC Book Drive! The goal is to collect 200 new books for Children’s Hospital of Michigan to bring comfort, hope, and a great story to children during their hospital stay.
Families who would like to help can donate newly purchased books appropriate for a pediatric setting at any of our three elementary schools throughout September. Thank you to our Crestwood community for helping brighten the day of a child, one book at a time!
