What happens when you give kindergarteners high expectations and meaningful learning experiences? Danielle Fleming and her students at Kinloch Elementary showed us this year. Through an informational writing unit on ocean animals that culminated in a Talking Zoo celebration, her young learners became confident researchers, writers, and public speakers. Their growth is a powerful reminder that purposeful instruction unlocks potential at every grade level.

Cathy Mitera, Paraprofessional at Hillcrest Elementary, knows that the right support can unlock courage in every student. Through our Paws to Read Book Club this year, students found safety, connection, and confidence alongside therapy dogs Theo and Scout. Meet Wendy Ellis, a 4th grade teacher at Highview Elementary School, who reminded us that sometimes the most powerful teaching moments come from the simplest shifts. When repeated assessments weren't helping her students grasp summarizing, Wendy traded written tests for drawings and transformed her classroom into a space where confidence and understanding could flourish. Her story is a beautiful example of the thoughtful, student-centered approach our educators bring to their work every single day.

What happens when we give young learners the chance to explore nature firsthand? Eman Mizyed, GSRP Associate Teacher at Crestwood Early Childhood Center, discovered that the learning doesn't stop at the classroom door. When students explore living and non-living elements in their environment, they develop curiosity that travels home, sparking conversations with families about what living things need to survive. This is the kind of engagement that builds both strong learners and connected communities.
